Mississauga festivals; Carassauga Festival of Cultures, Mississauga Waterfront Festival, MuslimFest and Southside Shuffle Blues and Jazz Festival, were recognized by Festivals and Events Ontario (FEO) as being amongst the Top 100 Festivals in the province.
“The City of Mississauga has many annual festivals that continue to grow and draw visitors from other cities,” said manager of Community Programs Sheila Wilson. “The City works closely with community group organizers and the events have been fantastic.”
The City of Mississauga has four grant programs to assist community groups: the Corporate Grant Program, the Arts and Culture Grant Program, the Community Cultural Festivals and Celebrations Grant Program, and the Capacity Building Grant Program.
FEO annually recognizes the province’s best festivals and events through its Top 100 Ontario Festivals program. The program recognizes best practices and innovation in events. The awards were presented at the 2009 FEO Conference at the Holiday Inn Burlington Hotel and Conference Centre held March 4 to 7, 2009.
In addition to the top festival recognition Mississauga also received two individual festival awards: Mississauga Waterfront Festival for ‘Best Media, Marketing and Promotional Campaign’ and ‘Best Fundraising Idea’, MuslimFest received the award for ‘Best Virtual Campaign’ and the Southside Shuffle Blues and Jazz Festival received the award for ‘Best Official Printed Program’.
